Oral Hygiene

  • Proper Brushing
    • Always brush your teeth for about 2 to 3 minutes.
    • Use gentle strokes while moving the toothbrush forward and backward while maintaining an angle of about 45 degrees.
  • Avoid teeth damaging food
    • Eating ice, popcorn or candy bars daily can damage your teeth.
    • Fizzy drinks corrode enamel of your teeth.
    • Consumption of tea and coffee make your teeth stained.
      • Flossing should be done daily after brushing your teeth.
  • Teeth are for chewing food only.
    • Using your teeth to chew pen caps, opening hard shells of nuts, tearing cloth material and other such activity can damage your teeth.
  • Avoid smoking
    • Cigarette smoke contains minute nicotine particles which damage your teeth and also blacken your gums. It may also cause serious gum diseases.
  • Avoid grinding of teeth
    • Teeth are not meant to handle excessive pressure that results from grinding or clinching.
    • It may also cause the gums to recede and accelerate gum related problems.
  • Consult your doctors for side effects of prescribed medicine on your teeth. Heavy dosage of antibiotics containing tetracycline can cause teeth discolouration.
  • Gastrointestinal problems should not be ignored as they can have damaging effect on teeth.
  • While exercising or playing contact sports, wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth.
  • Visit a dentist after every six months as early diagnosis of problems can help in the long run.
